As many of you may have already heard, I received notice from Hawks late this afternoon that the season start has been postponed as below.
"Due to the unique situation we are currently facing, we have made the decision to post-pone the start of our Junior Competition.
At this stage, we will look to commence the season on the weekend of 1st/2nd May, with Under 8's starting 28th April.
As we draw closer to these dates, we will work with Junior Clubs with regards to Grading and the Season itself. "
As a club, Raiders supports Hawks difficult decision and look forward to starting after school holidays.
We have additionally been advised that training at many of our venues is tenuous and likely to be closed at short notice creating an imbalance in team access to courts.
I have met with members of our coaching panel this evening and discussed options going forward. We have decided to delay the onset of training to keep in line with the start of the season, as such, formal, team-based training will also be delayed and will now commence at the start of term 2 (Monday 27th April). This will mean the cancellation of only 2-3 sessions for each team as no training takes place on school holidays.
You are welcome to have informal sessions as desired at locations you organise, but unfortunately our usual training venues will not be available until term 2.
We wish to provide the opportunity for our member's development during this delayed start, as such, we will try our best to create suggested drills and sessions that players can do at home to develop their individual skills while waiting for team based training to start. We hope to have these up on our website by the end of the weekend.
There is a Mouthguard fitting session currently planed for 4th April at Bendat, this will still proceed unless notified otherwise (check Hawks website).
Our apologies for the disappointment this is bound to cause, we look forward to starting as soon as possible and will keep you updated with any developments. Can I ask managers to please ensure all team members are aware, including your coaches, especially if they are not parents.
